Witte de With and Museu Serralves in Porto have invited international artists to realize
projects in both cultural capitals. The theme of these projects is the city, urban space,
and the use of this space within a specific local context. Each artist will be displaying
a project for in Porto and Rotterdam, allowing the local context to inspire them. Runa
Islam (UK) makes the local differences tangible by showing two films side by side.
The two films are based on the same scenario, but shot in the different cities. Damian
Ortega (Mexico) is organising a fundraising drive in Rotterdam to plant trees in Porto.
Francis Alÿs (Belgium - Mexico) is exhibiting his archives, which include famous
walking projects. All projects, both in Porto and Rotterdam, will be documented in a
catalogue which will be published to accompany the exhibition. The Portuguese part
of the Squatters exhibition can be seen in the Museu Serralves in Porto from
mid-June.
