Sopra la Citta' / Over the City

La mostra delle giovanissime artiste turche Elcin Ekinci e Ceylan Dokmen, è promossa da Famiglia Margini che ne ospita le opere in quanto luogo impenitente della cultura milanese e italiana, e soprattutto punta di diamante dell'arte giovane italiana che dissacra e infuoca citazioni, miti, stereotipi, usi e costumi, dando di questo nuovo secolo un'idea forte, di guerra al medioevo prossimo venturo. D'altronde la Famiglia Margini diretta dall'impareggiabile e sensibilissima Grace Zanotto e da Paola Fiorido, associazione di giovani per i giovani, da sempre è attenta alle nuove proposte e alle icone del visivo che la critica vigile scopre specie fra i giovani artisti italiani e stranieri,favorendone così la proposizione.

L'esposizione curata dal Prof. Carlo Franza, illustre storico dell'arte di fama internazionale, che firma anche il testo, dal titolo "Sopra la città", riunisce 20 opere di vario formato delle giovani artiste turche Elcin Ekinci e Ceylan Dokmen, punte di diamante dell'arte turca contemporanea, capaci la prima di rivisitare le architetture e la storia del suo paese attraverso pulsioni erotiche e feticci corporali, la seconda con una panoramica di oggetti e luoghi cittadini che si slabbrano dai bagagli dell'artista viandante.

All'inaugurazione ci sarà una prolusione del Prof. Carlo Franza curatore della mostra, la presenza delle artiste che firmeranno i cataloghi, personalizzandoli, e la partecipazione di intellettuali italiani e stranieri, unitamente a collezionisti e amici. Si brinderà con vini italiani.

Scrive Carlo Franza: "Decisamente sopra la città, non dentro e non a fianco, lontano dagli occhi bassi del medioevo, un po' vedette del contemporaneo. E' così che voglio leggere il lavoro artistico di queste due giovani artiste turche. La Ekinci rivisita le architetture del suo paese e le architetture del mondo, da quelle intime come la "vagina" lievitante di umori a quelle storiche come le "tette" che ricoprono le cupole di moschee e sinagoghe, e capaci di muovere pulsioni di sensibile erotismo. E' una sfida culturale di grande portata, una sorta di transumanza del corpo che si libera delle sue oscurità. La Dokmen attraverso le sue valigie sculture libera il mondo immagazzinato di oggetti e luoghi, quel contemporaneo che pure ha custodito come avesse tutto raccolto in un'arca di noè, reinventando un senso nuovo per ogni immagine, che è così capace di offrirsi ad un occhio guardone,lontano da sguardi fedeli. E come se non bastasse la sua valigia è storia dell'oggi, è presa diretta della libertà e dell'euforia, sotto lo sguardo di kore e delle sue arruffate passioni".

The exhibition (Curator Prof. Carlo Franza) which will be presented in Gallery of Famiglia Margini, from 26 April to 9 May, a collective exhibition of two young Turkish artists who works in different artistic languages. And this project that named as “Over the City”, is a communion dialogue and communication about the city between two artists.

Ceylan Dökmen who is working concepts of alternative city, utopia, architecture makes sculptures with the material of metal and iron. And she is using the linear form of sculpture language. These sculptures are represented her observes and traces of the persons and the cities that are references from plays, imagination, fantasia and migration. And she is participating to “Over the City” with her work, “city of valise” which contains buildings and structures.

And another artist; Elçin Ekinci, is participating this exhibition with her two different works. “-like as if” is an “unrealisable”- intervention projects that she has decided with perspectives of İstanbul and mosques. And another work that she has performed ın the Museum of Modern Art in İstanbul without a permission when she was working there, that is called “On the Line Between the Museum and City”. Elçin Ekinci who is working generally concepts of questioning the ”reality”, “unreality”, “existence”, “identity”, gender and terminology of art, realizes these projects with different kind of materials (video, installation, performance...) according as what she needs in the process. In her last works she prefers to use her and another’s’ body as a material, like a sculpture that is living in a “real” life. And she is making some closed-fictional and interactive projects that are full of fantasy, dream process, fiction and stories of a detective.

In this collective project these two different artistic languages and visions comes together with the union act is they are using or looking to the city as a playground. They are ınterrepting to the city by using the fiction and fantasy in different ways-against to the “treachers, banal, rotten which have been forced to live in. One of them is carrying away the city in a valise, like a voyager who does not want to belong to… And another one is carrying away the body in a city like a hero to be turned into invisible by routine and gears of daily life. Sometimes she appears with a cape that she keeps under black white clothes and follows, looks for traces in the putting details over the city…

Artists Biography

Ceylan Dökmen was born in İstanbul, TURKEY in 1981. She studied sculpture in Academy of Fine Arts Mimar Sinan ın Istanbul.She has been continuing her education ın sculpture- master program of Marmara University (Istanbul) since 2005. She lives and works in Istanbul but ın these days she ıs studing in Italy for writing her thesis and looking for another culture. She has participated lots of exhibitions and projects ın Istanbul. And she continues her personal works and designs.

Elçin Ekinci was born in İskenderun, TURKEY in 1980. She studied fashion-design ın University of Marmara. In 2000-2004 she studied fine arts and design in University of Yıldız Teknik ın Istanbul. She has been continuing her education in sculpture- master program of Marmara University (Istanbul) since 2005. She lives and works in Istanbul but ın these days she ıs studing in Italy for writing her thesis. She has participated lots of exhibitions and projects ın Istanbul. And she continues her personal works and designs.
