Grievin
Homie is pleased to announce Grievin’, an exhibition and video
premiere by Karen Leo.
Grievin’ is the sixth in a series of videos by Karen Leo to feature
the puppet characters of Tyree and Hern-Hern. Grievin’ features
performances by Daniel Seiple and Mike Smith, as well as cameo
appearances by the indomitable people of Jersey City.
In this madcap comedy, premiering at Homie, Hern-Hern discovers the
joy and profit of marketing handmade souvenirs to visitors of Ground
Zero. Reminiscent of “Being There” and “The Jerk”, Grievin’
traces Hern-Hern’s stratospheric ascent and disappointing climax.
Souvenirs made by Hern-Hern will be for sale at Homie for the
duration of the exhibition.
Karen Leo is a video artist, retired amateur boxer, comedy writer and
puppeteer. Short films from her 2000-2003 Willis Trilogy have been
lauded as “batty” in the Village Voice, “relentless” in the
New York Times, “hilarious” in the New Yorker, and been said to
“make you weep until you’re dry and tempt you to commit
suicide,” in a sort of pissy review from a little read web magazine.
Recent projects include a series of shorts with Tyree and Hern-Hern,
twin boxing glove hand puppets, in search of the American Dream.
Leo’s work has been screened at the Slamdance Film Festival in Utah,
Musee D’Arte Moderne in Paris, the La Foret Museum in Tokyo. She
lives in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Opening: Saturday, May 12th, 7-10 PM
