Artists: Pamela Mower-Conner, Artis Lane, Dominique Moody, Echiko Ohira, and Franceska Schifrin

Award winning actress CCH Pounder (THE SHIELD) is proud to announce a celebration, coordinated by Steve Irvin, of five accomplished California women artists at the Pounder-Koné Art Space in Atwater Village. FULLY-FLEDGED showcases the talents of four successful mid career artists: Pamela Mower-Conner, Dominique Moody, Echiko Ohira, and Franceska Schifrin and will include a special exhibition by the prolific and renowned Artis Lane. The show will open on June 1, 2007, with a reception on June 8, 2007 from 6:00 to 10:00p.m., featuring kora music by Mady Kouyate. The exhibition runs through July 29, 2007.

Artis Lane is an accomplished sculptor, painter and printmaker. Born in Ontario, Canada, Artis has been creating art since she was six years old. A descendant of abolitionist, educator, and publisher Mary Ann Shadd, Artis is an advocate for freeing the human spirit. She attended Ontario College of Art, Cranbrook Art Academy and UCLA and her works are among the collections of Bill Cosby, Oprah Winfrey, former President and Mrs. George H. W. Bush, Mr. & Mrs. Sidney Poitier, Quincy Jones, Winnie Mandela, Mr. & Mrs. Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Henry Kissinger, the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institute, the National Council of Negro Women, Howard University, and many others.

Pamela Mower-Conner is a successful painter. Her work has been exhibited in such galleries and museums as the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Bergamot Station in Los Angeles, The Folk Tree Collection in Pasadena, the INSA Art Center in Seoul, Korea, the Absolute Gallery in San Marino, Angel's Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, the Los Angeles County Art Museum, the Fischer Gallery at USC and the Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art. Her education includes the Otis Art Institute and California State University, Fullerton.

Dominique Moody was trained in classical western and visual arts methods at the Philadelphia College of Art and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. In 1979, she moved to San Francisco, was inspired by the Haight-Ashbury community of artists and in the 1980's suffered a permanent alteration to her eyesight. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California at Berkeley, she delved into collage and mixed-media work. Dominique has since exhibited widely throughout the country including a solo show at the Watts Towers Arts Center. Most recently, she received a grant from the California Community Foundation, funded by the Getty Arts Center, to continue her groundbreaking artistic exploration.

Echiko Ohira's intimate collage drawings represent the artist’s personal journey. Her assemblages transform objects such as brown paper bags, nails, wire and cardboard from everyday life. Wistful and quiet, her format includes hand held objects. Echiko received a B.F.A. from the Musashino Art University and her work has been exhibited at the David & Cline Gallery in Ashland, the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, El Camino College's Art Gallery in Torrance, the Schneider Museum of Art at Southern Oregon University, the Riverside Art Museum and the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles, among many others.

Franceska Schifrin was educated as the School of Visual Arts in New York and her numerous exhibitions have included the Soapbox Gallery in Venice, the Galerie Bourbon in Haiti, the ARC Gallery in Chicago and the Trojanowska Gallery in San Francisco. She received a J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the Visual Arts grant, a Fellowship in Visual Arts from the California Arts Council and a Silver Discovery Award from the Art of California Magazine. Her collectors include Denzel Washington, Alfre Woodard, Charles Dutton, Angela Bassett and Courtney Vance.
