In Porto 2001 European Capital of Culture PortoArte - Feira de Arte Moderna 2001 (Modern Art Fair) Taking place for the first time in 2001, the year in which the City of Porto is the European Capital of Culture, PortoArte shall be a yearly art fair, positioning itself as a Modern Art Fair presenting art dating from 1900 to the present day.

Taking place for the first time in 2001, the year in which the City of Porto is the European Capital of Culture,
PortoArte shall be a yearly art fair, positioning itself as a Modern Art Fair presenting art dating from 1900 to the present day.
It shall be composed of three modules:
The Art Galleries - both national and international with a commercial purpose, these shall be the main protagonists of
the Fair.
The Institutions - both national and international with an institutional purpose, they may or may not exhibit their
assets.
The exhibitions - both national and international, these shall cover diverse artistic expressions that shall not conflict with
the commercial nature of the fair; they shall bring an innovative touch to the fair and as a result shall a broad public.
In order to make this fair increasingly attractive to the art world in Portugal and to establish it as a reference point in
foreign markets EXPONOR shall invest in:
Strong promotion at a national level before and during the event, using high impact channels of communication.
A cycle of conferences led by Portuguese and foreign speakers of renown in the art world.
Strong international promotion abroad through its offices in Spain (Madrid, Vigo, Barcelona) and EXPONOR Brasil.
Making the most of the simultaneous realisation of PORTOJÓIA - 12ª Feira Internacional de Joalharia,
Ourivesaria e Relojoaria (12th International Fair of Jewellery, Goldsmithry and Watch-making).
PORTOARTE 2001 aims to become recognised as the Art Fair in Portugal and, as its medium term strategy, it will look
to foreign markets in a clear bid for integrated internationalisation through its investment in a Culture Fair in São Paulo,
Brasil.
LOCATION
EXPONOR's exhibition park is strategically located a few miles from Porto
downtown, an important business centre and the gateway to a financially strong
region.
It is served by modern highway networks, being easily connected by motorway to
Lisbon - Portugal's capital city (190 miles to the South) -, to all main cities and
towns in the region and to the Spanish border (75 miles to the North).
EXPONOR facilities are just ten minutes away from the Porto International
Airport, which has frequent flights to European and American main cities.
Moreover, just outside EXPONOR's gates stands the Leixões sea harbour - used
by a significant part of Portugal's exports and imports - and the TIR international
heavy trucks terminal.
