Lucas Cranach's "Adam and Eve" is one of the most important paintings in the Courtauld's collection. This celebrated work brilliantly combines devotional meaning with pictorial elegance and invention. Despite its importance and enduring popular appeal, Adam and Eve has never before been the subject of an exhibition. The event brings together a group of outstanding and closely related paintings, drawings and prints by Cranach and his contemporaries from international collections to explore the meaning of this masterpiece and the context in which it was made.
