Leaf Relief Landscapes. Light boxes. A microscopic leaf pattern morphs into a series of cast cement reliefs, where the pattern dimensionally takes form and projects out from the background.
Leaf Relief Landscapes
REALization: Leaf Relief Landscapes" expands upon a dialogue with a microscopic leaf pattern which began in the last exhibition: "TRANSformation: Nature Decoded," where 18 18"x18" light boxes illuminated a microscopic leaf pattern piece by piece. Organized as a mosaic, each light box contained a bit of the microscopic leaf pattern, and worked together to convey the larger tapestry. In "REALization: Leaf Relief Landscapes" the microscopic leaf pattern now morphs into a series of cast cement reliefs, where the pattern dimensionally takes form and projects out from the background.
"Within
the balance of
Opposites
Exists a threshold
similar to the Eye
of the Storm.
The safety of this calmness
Inspires
and
Provokes gentle Introspection
which is Comforting
and
Invigorating."
S B LONDON is a showroom of industrial art, exhibiting TECHNOcraft objects which inform, inspire, and relieve. Simple yet complex forms are created by studying, controlling, and abstracting nature's microscopic geometry. Rapid prototyping and industrial manufacturing techniques are used to analyze and scale these complex structures with precision. The process makes a practice of finding commonalities between seemingly disparate elements by exposing hidden information and information that is not commonly seen. Using "nature as data," delicate narratives emerge: nature vs. technology, humans within a universe, and the ecosystem with machines are just a few themes that resonate. Subtly stirring, TECHNOcraft objects illustrate the fragile balance between opposites and the relationships that exist between them, us, and each other. Everything is linked to everything after all.
"TRANSformation: Nature Decoded" is still on view, as is "ESCALATion: The Birth of an Object" and "RESISTance: Prints of Microscopic Patterns." The second installment in a series, "ESCALATion" develops forms found in "RESISTance" into cement sculptures. These works are a fusion of contrary forces: the microscopic is magnified, the hidden is revealed, the interior is reversed to the exterior, and the background becomes foreground.
