Fernado Botero is the most famous Columbian artist on
the international scene. His fame is based on his naïve
portraits of rotund men, women, animals and still lifes.
The paintings, not seldom paraphrases of famous
art-historical pieces, radiate a peculiar stillness and
mild satire. In his paintings we can make
acquaintances with Italian Renaissance princes, Latin
matrons, bull fighters, genial transvestites and
charming girls. Due to his family's high position in
society, Botero could freely hackle the corrupt ruling
class of his country in his gentle and sophisticated
ways.
Moderna Museet is also delighted to be able to , thanks
to the Stockholm City Art Council and the Columbian
Embassy, show Botero's large scale sculptures at
Strandvägen during the exhibition.
In connection to the exhibition Moderna Museet will
arrange activities such as seminars, music and food.
