The Blair Collection of Bay Area Abstract Expressionism. Lita Albuquerque's project is both an exploration of the concept of a unified planet surrounded by starlight and an exploration of man's relationship to the stars. Joel Pickford develops a series of photographs bringing together the culture, history and landscape of Southern Louisiana's Creole world.

The Fresno Art Museum will kick off the summer exhibits with the Opening Reception on Friday, June 29, 2007, 5-7pm. Exhibits include the works of: The Blair Collection of Bay Area Abstract Expressionism, Lita Albuquerque, and Joel Pickford.
San Francisco and the Second Wave: The Blair Collection of Bay Area Abstract Expressionism, 1945-1965
The Blair Collection of Bay Area Abstract Expressionism showcases paintings that emerged from the second wave of creative life that marked San Francisco’s painting renaissance following the return of American soldiers from the fronts of World War II. This work was informed by an allusion to and recognition of vastness of California’s elemental physical landscape and interior.

Lita Albuquerque: Stellar Axis: Antarctica
Lita Albuquerque's project, Stellar Axis: Antarctica, an exploration of the concept of a unified planet surrounded by and affected by starlight, is also an exploration of man's relationship to the stars. This project is a culmination of the artist's decades-long exploration into the relationship between the stellar and the terrestrial through large-scale landscape installations and environmental interventions.

Distilling the themes of Southern Louisiana's Creole world into visual poems, Joel Pickford has developed an extraordinary series of photographs that brings together the culture, history and landscape of one of America’s most distinct and anomalous regions.
