Running parallel to Aileen's ongoing PhD research programme 'mimi' is a new
series of wall drawings executed in fine pencil lines which will cover the
entire surface of the gallery walls over the course of the exhibition.
Aileen will be working in the gallery from Tuesday to Friday every week to
create the work, turning the process of drawing into an action as its
execution is open to the public.
'mimi' examines the motivations, emotions and working practice of the artist
as they strive to complete an artwork. The content of the drawings refers
to the inner world and sensations of the artist, providing a space for both
the artist and the audience to interact, inhabit, observe and experiment.
Over the course of the exhibition the work will grow and change as Aileen
reacts to the surrounding environment, introducing elements of work in other
media (including digital animation) to add more sculptural elements to the
work.
To accompany the exhibition The Changing Room has commissioned Glasgow
artist Jenny Crowe to produce a piece of writing in response to Aileen's
work. Aileen is currently a PhD (Fine Art) research student at Duncan of
Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.
