Since its founding in 1967, the Cologne International Art Fair has been the flagship for all international art fairs, and in terms of its composition and atmosphere, is unique in the world. The number of participants, which is restricted to about 260 internationally renowned galleries, guarantees a transparent structure, but at the same time, offers a comprehensive overview of the 20th century art scene - from the Classical Moderns up to the latest art productions.
With ART COLOGNE, Germany's most important art fair is held each year. Since its founding in 1967, the Cologne
International Art Fair has been the flagship for all international art fairs, and in terms of its composition and atmosphere,
is unique in the world. This status as well as the quality and balance of its range are maintained by an international
selection committee. The number of participants, which is restricted to about 260 internationally renowned galleries,
guarantees a transparent structure, but at the same time, offers a comprehensive
overview of the 20th century art scene - from the Classical Moderns up to the latest
art productions. Apart from the classics, the focal points of the range are 60's, 70's,
80's and 90's art.
Featuring art works both old and new, the ART COLOGNE will open its doors to the
public from October 31 to November 4, 2001. Around 270 leading dealers in modern
and contemporary art from over 20 countries will be exhibiting at the ART COLOGNE
2001. Based as ever on the Cologne trade fair site, ART COLOGNE will present
selected works of art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The spotlight at this year's fair
will fall on classical Modernist works, as well as on art from the 1960s - 80s and
contemporary modern art and sculpture.
In addition, ART COLOGNE offers the entire infrastructure and comprehensive services of KölnMesse, one of the
world´s four largest trade fair companies. You will find everything to make your stay
during the event as comfortable and productive as possible. Conveniently located
parking lots, train stations and airports make ART COLOGNE easily accessible.
Integrated into the exhibition area of KölnMesse GmbH's Rhineside Halls is the Köln
Skulptur sector. In this presentation setting, which is unique worldwide, admission is
exclusively limited to three-dimensional objects. This year, a number of young,
up-and-coming artists will participate in the international sponsorship programme supported by the Federal Ministry of
the Interior, the City of Cologne and KölnMesse. The young galleries, which at the
invitation of a jury of experts, are able to participate at the fair thanks to sponsorship
by the Stadtsparkasse Cologne's Culture Foundation (Stiftung Kultur), will also form
their own section within the event. Each year, ART COLOGNE registers around 70,000
visitors.
ART-Talks - a new discussion element
New to ART COLOGNE will be the staging of public discussions about art entitled "ART talks". The discussions will be
chaired and will take place daily between 4 pm and 5 pm
at the WDR stand (Hall 3, gound floor, G 21). "ART talks" will be organised by finde art and media consultants Krebber
+ Schmid who also run the programme of daily tours and special-theme tours at ART COLOGNE.
