A cycle of five exhibitions
The Foundation is presenting a cycle of five exhibitions that take a look at current Japanese art. These shows, aimed at introducing young artists, are a portrait of present-day Japanese society. One of the features of the artists participating in Kawai is their interest in creating fashion accessories decorated with their work, so that art is not simply confined to museums and galleries but forms part of everyday life and can be seen in the street. Most of the five artists have produced their work specifically for the Espai 13, transforming the space with large murals, projections and installations that give the viewer an idea of the variety of artistic trends to be found in Japan today: the combination of tradition and modernity, the problem of identity, the youthfulness of art, the chronicle of today's Japan, or the poetry of strangeness. Cycle selected by Helene Kelmachter.
