Organised by the City of Paris, the EDF Foundation and the Ministry of foreign and European affairs, the RESIDENTS exhibition at the Espace EDF Electra will bring together 36 artists from 22 nations. All of them were enrolled on residencies in Paris between 2003 and 2007. As part of its residency programs, the City of Paris each year welcomes more than 40 artists and writers from around the world to the Centre international des Récollets, in partnership with the Ministry of foreign and European affairs, and to the Cité Internationale des arts, for stays lasting between three and six months.

The RESIDENTS exhibition will enable the public to meet with some of these artists who have been inspired by Paris. Of the 160 plus artists to benefit from a residency in the City of Paris since 2003, exhibition curator Nathalie Viot has chosen to focus her selection around the concept of displacement: to displace and to be displaced. The RESIDENTS exhibition features the work of 36 artists, visual artists, performers, choregraphers and art critics. Such diversity reflects the unique nature of this multidisciplinary residency programme. RESIDENTS brings together artists from 22 nations having one thing in common: Paris, the land of their desires, dreams and seeking.

Throughout the exhibition, artists performances will be arranged at the Espace EDF Electra. Meetings and performances will also take place at the Jeu de Paume, La maison rouge, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Le Plateau - Frac Ile de France, the Point Ephémère, the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Chapelle des Récollets, extensions to the project, in order to showcase the diverse range of disciplines supported by artist residency programmes run by the City of Paris.

The RESIDENTS exhibition is accompanied by the publication of a book which looks at anthropological thinking on the notion of displacement in art and features interviews conducted with artists. This bilingual book, with a preface by Bruno Latour, is published by Editions du Panama.
