Still life paintings
H. Patterson are proud to present another wonderful joint
exhibition of father and son – Willem and Walter Dolphyn.Their latest
exhibition is a culmination of the past year’s work, which for both, has
seen a battle with adversity. Walter’s move to France a few years back has
left him an altogether happier lunatic and his true genius emerges through
his painting – when his commitment to barbecues for the whole village is
exhausted! His obsession with hunting on ebay for the toys and curiosities
that form the focus of his paintings also takes much of his time and
attention and keeps him from painting.
What is accomplished when time
permits however, is delightful in content and magnificent in
execution.Walter’s dinky toy paintings not only demonstrate what incredible
artistic talent he possesses, but also his wonderfully quirky sense of
humour shines through in the mini stories that are told in his paintings.
The trompe l’oeil effect that permeates throughout his work is exquisitely
eye-catching and the attention to detail is simply marvelous. We really
are absolutely delighted to bring this collection of wonderful paintings
for your appreciation.Willem has emerged stronger than ever thanks to his
sincere professionalism and diligent attitude.
His complete dedication to
his art has helped him through this past year and his unbridled enthusiasm
for his painting this year is evident in the breathtaking collection of
treasures on display in this, his 22nd exhibition with us.Equally adept at
subtle or lavish compositions, Willem’s graceful genius makes their
creation appear simple. An inspiration to so many of his pupils and to
many generations to come, Willem’s outstanding example stimulates the best
in all those around him. His work is a rare combination of classical
composition and exquisite colour and tone, made possible by his insistence
on working exclusively from life and using the natural northern European
light. These paintings uphold and enhance the Dolphyn’s worldwide
reputation as masters of contemporary realist painting.
