ROLAND REISS
ONSHORE FLOW
Gallery C is pleased to present ONSHORE FLOW, an exhibition of recent paintings by Roland Reiss. Since the 1950s, Reiss has been an integral faction in the dialogue of contemporary art. Among his many exhibition achievements, Reiss has shown at Kassel Germany’s DOKUMENTA, been included in the Whitney Biennial and has major artworks in countless museums and prestigious private collections.
After three decades of creating and mastering his trailblazing diorama tableau sculpture, Reiss abandoned his signature approach and returned to painting. He has been pursuing a new abstract painting for almost two decades. Rather than emphasize composition to make a painting that "works" (privileging engineered results over the art experience), Reiss juxtaposes a wild array of non-objective forms and styles to create a compelling picture that demands investigation over contemplation. Abandoning formula, Reiss' paintings appeal to one's retinal visual pleasure receptors without resorting to imitative methods emphasizing harmony – these works go beyond the conventions employed in most painting today.

KENNY HARRIS
NEW PAINTINGS
Gallery C is pleased to present NEW PAINTINGS by Kenny Harris. With an emphasis on a sublime realism that stays current on the conceptual concerns of contemporary art, Harris’ paintings are poetic interludes on our current condition subsumed in the beauty of the pregnant pause.
For this show, Harris has painted what appear to be random, unpopulated interiors based on photos he took last year while traveling to South America. The results, however, bear no culturally specific attributes – they are universal experiences of personal intimacy. Harris paints the rooms in which you may have been, traveled through or glimpsed. Yet, as unpopulated spaces, the interiors are ready to be viewed anew, stark and majestic all in the sweep of an eye or in the daylong meditation of one's gaze. Some of Harris' realistic oil on canvas wonders span over six feet in size.
Both exhibitions will be on view November 15, 2007 through January 5, 2008. A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, November 15, from 7 – 10 pm.
