Group show
Broadway Gallery is pleased to present Hotel, a group show of international artists curated by Basak Malone.
The exhibition is centered around the very concept of the "hotel" as seen in a variety of interpretations—as a temporary residence, an area of rest for travelers, the spot of seedy sexual rendezvous, or even a metaphor for the body as the brief dwelling of the soul.
Indeed, the liminal nature of the hotel seems to exert a distinct allure for artists and intellectuals. French writer and thinker Maurice Blanchot spent much of his life in hotels and based many of his stories there, and the Hotel Chelsea has been a famous haven and inspiration for artists in New York since it opened in 1905.
The Hotel exhibition brings artists using a variety of mediums from oil paint to mixed media installation. The exhibiting artists Sibylle Burr, Carl Hoare, Gun Mattson, Suzanne Vandeboom, Reuven Shezen, Thomas Goekint, Whitney McVeigh, Crystal Fischetti, Nicolas Saulière, Ellen Benjoya Skotheim, Marco Antonio Abbagnara, and Henk Roozendaal create a visual debate that reveals their own interpretation of the "hotel".

Cigdem Yapanar
Broadway Gallery is pleased to present the work of Cigdem Yapanar. Yapanar, a native of Turkey, has been creating sculptures for the past 15 years. She is an earnest devotee of the human form, which she renders in bronze in an elongated, mannerist style. Yapanar uses her sculptures to grapple with emotions fundamental to interpersonal relationships: passion, desire, loneliness, and love. Her pieces depict individuals and couples running, standing, kneeling, and holding each other, each bronze possessing a sense of life and movement that seems to belie the static nature of sculpture.
Opening Reception: Friday, November 16, 6-8 pm
