Federico Biancalani e Matteo Cocci

La Galleria 57 Rosso presenta due giovani artisti toscani in doppia personale.
Un accostamento di due diversi linguaggi giocati a confronto come due monologhi in forma di dialogo. Due ricerche estetiche “separate in casa”. Tridimensionalità non soltanto scultorea e bidimensionalità non soltanto pittorica, lenta digestione e rapida esecuzione.

Come osserva Federico Biancalani di sè stesso il suo lavoro gioca sui tempi e gli andamenti propri della “ricetta” culinaria: pignoleria e studio delle proprietà della materia, scoperta dei giusti ingredienti da giocare in un ordine ben preciso. Come ha osservato Stefano Pezzato, le opere di Matteo Cocci “possono essere considerate le ultime eredi dell’automatismo surrealista e della spontaneità primitiva dell’Art Brut”.

Per Matteo tutto comincia da una matrice, tre dita di scura melassa bituminosa su cui vengono incise “memorie di-segni”, successivamente stampate su brandelli di carta. La tavola è un supporto sovra a cui procedere strato su strato, trasparenza sopra trasparenza. Fissati e imprigionati dalla cera d’ambra, affiorano alla vista, storielle odorose e motivetti cantati, vedute in dettaglio o ameni “esserini”. Non chiedetegli di cosa si tratti. Sarà lui a domandarvi che cosa vi sembrano.

Federico continua con il metallo, questa volta mettendo in scena come una sorta di “ripostiglio di Marte”: teatrini di ferraglie patinate a cera, gesso e grafite, ecco le mensole stipate nell’immaginario anfratto del Dio della Guerra. Battaglie, vessilli, fuochi fatui e riviste delle milizie si alternano sospese su pareti dove la luce riflette, scintilla, riverbera, ombreggia.

57 Rosso Art Gallery presents two young tuscan artists in a combined personal exhibit. A combination of two different artistic languages are placed together so that the two dialogues become a monologue. The two aesthetic projects stand “separate but in the same place.” Three-dimensionality is not only sculptural and two-dimensionality is not only pictoral, with slow digestion and rapid execution.

As Federico Biancalani has said about himself, his work plays with the times and processes which belong to the culinary recipe: precision and the study of the property of the materials he works with and the discovery of the light ingredients put together in a very precise order. As Stefano Pezzato has observed, the works of Matteo Cocci “can be considered the last heir of surrealistic automatism and of the primitive spontaneity of Art Brut.”

For Matteo, everything begins from a root, 3 centimeters of dark bituminous molasses, on which he engraves “memorie di-segni” (memories of signs), which afterwards are stamped on pieces of paper. The base is a support on which he adds layer by layer, transparency upon transparency. Blocked and imprisoned in the amber wax, they emerge into sight, perfume stories and sung refrains, seen in detail or charming “little beings.” Don’t ask him what it’s all about. It will be he who asks you what they seem to you.

Federico continues with metal, this time principally producing like a kind of “closet of Mars”: little productions of iron scraps covered with wax, chalk, and graphite, behold the shelves in the imaginary cavern of the God of War. Battles, flags, flickering lights for the dead, and military parades alternate with each other suspended on the walls where the light reflects, sparkles, reverberates, and shadows.
