Cennino Cennini and the Tradition of Tuscan Painting from Giotto to Lorenzo Monaco. This studio exhibition presents some twenty panels and drawings from the 14th and 15th century.

comunicato stampa

In co-operation with the Department of Art History at the Freie Universität Berlin

This studio exhibition presents some twenty panels and drawings from the 14th and 15th century. The thematic framework is provided by the work of Tuscan artist Cennino Cennini, author of the ‘Libro dell’Arte’ (‘Book of Art’), a late Mediaeval painters’ handbook on the cusp of the Renaissance. Two panels from the collection of the Gemäldegalerie - Old Master Paintings, a ‘Bishop Saint’ and a ‘Pope Saint’, are attributed to Cennini. These, together with the earliest known copy of the ‘Libro dell’Arte, form the heart of the exhibition. Further included are works by Giotto, Taddeo Gaddi, Agnolo Gaddi, and Lorenzo Monaco.
