This annual exhibition includes selected works from the Cambridge
Galleries' collection of contemporary Canadian Fibre Art. Unique in
Canada, the collection features works that demonstrate the wide
diversity and ingenuity of Canadian artists creating works of art that
are textile based. The collection now numbers more than 150 pieces,
acquired over the past 19 years. The collection represents an important
link with the City of Cambridge's textile heritage.
Guest Artist Lecture: Dorothy Caldwell
Tuesday, January 29 at 7:00 pm
Canadian artist and educator Dorothy Caldwell's work is represented in
the Cambridge Galleries' collection. Ms. Caldwell will discuss the
beginnings of the Fibre Art field, what is happening today and how the
medium is integrating with conventional contemporary art practice.
Dorothy Caldwell lives and works in Hastings, Ontario, and has held an
active studio practice for over 25 years. She has executed major
architectural commissions and her work is represented in numerous
international private and public collections. Dorothy represented Canada
at Expo '90 in Osaka and was the 1990 recipient of the prestigious
Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellent in the Crafts. She is a highly
regarded curator and educator.
