The Contemporary Portrait. Working as a realist in oil on canvas, her art is a meditation upon her subject's psychology, reaching to communicate an essence or truth of their unique reality, and even the culture's at large.
Linsley Lambert has been obsessed with the portrait since childhood. Working as a realist in oil on canvas, her art is a meditation upon her subject’s psychology, reaching to communicate an essence or truth of their unique reality, and even the culture’s at large. At other times she manipulates the image to convey her own message, using the sitter as her alter ego. She is fascinated by intensity, at times combining it with subtle humor.
Lambert works in many contexts, often with art historical references. These include portrayals of celebrity ice hockey players as quasi religious Renaissance icons, classical nudes with pets, rock musicians, and friends.
Making her paintings relevant to today, while communicating something universal, yet individual about humanity, Lambert’s intention is for each painting to have an impact which will remain with the viewer long after s/he has examined it. Lambert also takes commissions, and recently completed 33 portraits of substantial donors for Carnegie Mellon University.
