Sook Myoung Yoon

George Billis Gallery, New York

Sook Myoung Yoon is a painter who works both in the USA and Korea.
These environments inspire the romantic feelings that are illuminated through her patterned and field oriented artworks.
She takes interest in existence in itself rather than pursuing firmly placed reality.
The mystery of reflecting on nothingness is created in her abstract paintings.
The images and their fragments appear momentarily and then seemingly disappear.
The artist considers her paintings landscapes, influenced by a stone on the corner road, the grasses and wild flowers in fields, or glances of romantic imagery which leave a permanent inspiration in her art.

Sook Myoung Yoon received her MFA from Pratt Institute in 1994 and has shown extensively in Korea and the USA. This is the first exhibition for the artist at the George Billis Gallery.

The George Billis Gallery is an exhibition space located in the Chelsea Art District in New York City. The Gallery was established on March 25th, 1997, and was the 12th Gallery to open in Chelsea. Director George Billis has curated various exhibitions featuring artists Ross Bleckner, Alexis Rockman, Katherine Bowling and Oliver Herring; and has published feature articles on artists Cindy Sherman, Richard Phillips and Taro Chiezo. The Gallery features work by both emerging and established artists.
