comunicato stampa

Lille Grand Palais will host, for the first time ever, an unusual event: the European Contemporary Art Fair, Lille Art Fair. Under the artistic direction of Olivier Billiard, this new fair will bring together, over more 8 000 m2, 70 of the most renowned galleries in Europe. Lille Art Fair will be the opportunity for the 20 000 visitors expected - general public, amateurs and collectors - to come discover and purchase works by the best artists of the last fifty years.

The dynamism of Lille
The cradle of major historical collectors (Masurel, Dutilleul collections, etc), and known as a major artistic metropolis since «Lille 2004, European culture capital», Lille Métropole today can boast of being an important cultural and artistic center with international renowned museums such as the Palais des Beaux-Arts, the Piscine de Roubaix, Villeneuve d'Ascq Musée d'art moderne and soon Lens Louvres II. Lille Art Fair should be a new opportunity to share a great cultural event in the northern metropolis.

Major artists from the last 50 years
The galleries will present major artists of these past 50 years at the fair: the Capazza gallery with Jeanclos and Gougji, Van de Weghe with Alechinsky, Appel, Tapies, minimalist American artist Sol Lewitt and British sculptor Tony Cragg. At the Van Meensel gallery L. Fontana and J. Beuys, at Lucien Schweitzer's Villeglé and photographer G. Rousse, at Smagghe's the poster artists of New Realism. At Petitjean, Art Brut artist Sanfourche, and the main representatives of Narrative Figuration at Laurent Strouk's. Etats d'art will present the main abstract artists of the 60s, Degottex, Hantai, Martin Barré, Benrath. While Ritsch Fisch will offer Art Brut artists, Philippe Samuel will boast known artists of Art Concret such as Honegger, Pagava, or even Daniel Buren. The Galerie du Centre will also exhibit Narrative Figuration, with in particular Proweller, an artist that deserves to be rediscovered, and at Verlat's a sculptor worthy of being discovered as well, J. Lingl-Rebetez.

Photography and giant sculptures
Lille Art Fair also welcomes contemporary video and photographic creation, represented both by Georges Rousse's trompe-l'oeil paintings and Nils Udo's vegetal composition. Other sections that give way to great expectations are the group of monumental sculptures and the exhibition «MURmures» from the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, a selection of original works of art taken from their collection. It also sheds light on emerging artists from the Euro Region, the most promising of their generation.
