Mobius Artists Group presents "Body Stories", an installation of mixed media, photomontage, sculpture and sound created by Stephen Sheffield and Gina Cestaro.Free and open to the public.
Mobius Artist Group presents "Body Stories" an installation created by
Stephen Sheffield and Gina Cestaro.
What are the forces that range against us? What are the forces that range within us? How did our body image develop, and how does it change throughout our lives.
"Body Stories" is an installation about asking questions, and searching for answers. It is about discovering the misconceptions that we have been led to believe about our bodies and our sexuality. Gina Cestaro and Stephen Sheffield have collected audio interviews or "body-biographies," from men and women, created and collected imagery and built an environment consisting of four wooden books and four large photomontages. From each book emits looped audio clips collaged from the interviews, and behind each are the large photomontages with imagery "quilted" in a grid pattern. This is an ongoing investigation for the artists, with interviews and imagery continuing to grow.
"...and these are the forces they had
ranged against us, and these are the
forces we had ranged within us,
within us and against us, against us
and within us."

Installations/Exhibitions
*Frank Vasello - "Descent of Flowers," 1/9-1/26 (opening reception
and gallery talk, Sat., 1/12, 3-5 pm)
Inspired by the Greek myth of Persephone/Hades/Demeter, this
installation explores the themes of the eternal cycle of
birth/death/rebirth, loss and longing. This depressingly beautiful
installation, dominated by the stark beauty of dried flowers, will
consist of a long table set for two with the focal point being
hundreds of roses hung from the ceiling, creating the illusion of an
overhead carpet of flowers. Anxiety and loss is translated into a
romantic vision of lonely lost beings sitting under the vibrant world
hovering above.
*Dana Chandler and other AAMARP artists - "Reports from Afield: 25
Years of AAMARP and Its Future," 1/28 (Mon., 7 pm, free)
Now in its third year, Mobius' "Reports from Afield" is an ongoing
series of monthly artists' talk and has been made possible with
support from the Boston Cultural Agenda Fund, City of Boston. The
African-American Master Artists in Residency Program (AAMARP),
affiliated with Northeastern University, is the only existing
African-American resident program connected to a university. Since
its inception in 1977, AAMARP has been functioning as a residency
program for 14 artists of African descent. Founder Professor Dana
