Fotofestiwal 2008

Different venues, Lodz

The International Festival of Photography in Lodz is the biggest event of this kind in Poland. It is organized by Foundation of Visual Education and Lodz Art Center, located in a complex of 19th century factories. Every year in May over 50 exhibitions are presented. The programme is always enriched by meetings, auction, workshops, publications, slide-shows and portfolio reviews. Main Topic of this 7th edition is Made in China - a display of Chinese photography.

The programme is always enriched by meetings, auction, workshops, publications, slide-shows and portfolio reviews.

Main Topic of the 7th Fotofestiwal is MADE IN CHINA - Chinese photography. Exhibition China Photo, curated by Thomas Kellner is a review of main trends in the most contemporary Chinese photography. Western Eye on East is a group exhibition of European photographers curated by Krzysztof Candrowicz. The show will be focused on social and cultural changes of Chinese society that took place during recent years.

As every year in the Grand Prix Exhibition we will present best exhibitions that were proposed to the Fotofestiwal for all year. From over four hundred propositions curators jury chose ten projects of artists from all over the world. The best exhibition will be awarded with Grand Prix Fotofestiwal 2008.

CHINA PHOTO – Contemporary Chinese photography
CHINA PHOTO EXHIBITION is a review of main trends in the most contemporary Chinese photography. In the exhibition curated by Thomas Kellner we can see works of twelve Chinese artists:

WESTERN EYE ON EAST

Photographical story about contemporary China
„Western Eye on East” is a collective exhibition of European photographers curated by Krzysztof Candrowicz. The show will be focused on social and cultural changes of Chinese society from recent years. Nowadays China develops faster than any other country in the world in every sense: social economic, demographic and technological. Documenting those phenomena has become fascination of many European artists. In this exhibition photographers will tell about contemporary China. We are witnessing stories about clash of tradition and modern dynamic world, but also many personal stories presenting micro-world of people living in this Asian Empire.

All the festival events will take place in three Festival Centres, in a complex of 19th century factories on Tymienieckiego street, Patio Art Center WSHE and Manufaktura. As each year, many exhibitions will be shown in galleries, museums and cafes in the centre of Lodz.
