Antonio Riello - an Italian artist devoted to the dark sides of our civilization - presents at paula boettcher gallery an exhibition concerning his ''favourite obsession'': the Russian AK 47 (Kalashnikov) assault rifle.
It is a gun with special symbolic features. His unique shape became a sort of logo for revolutionary movements around the World (as well a death tool of terrorist attacks).
Riello's work is - as usual - in balance between his political incorrect way and his social commitment. Kalashnikov gun works as a pretext for Riello to explore artistically the paradoxes of contemporary aesthetic perception. How can interact ethic and aesthetic in a military gun? How much a symbolic context can influence the feeling of people in front of a weapon?
Some ''real'' AK 47 rifles and some related big sizes technical drawings take care of the subject.
