The exhibition presents Pinkham's abstract surrealism in a new series of paintings in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and panels entitled 'Transitions'.
The Downtown Center for the Arts (DCA) is pleased to announce their next exhibition featuring long time Oxnard resident, Julia Pinkham. The exhibition, which runs from July 11 through August 31, 2008, will present Pinkham’s abstract surrealism in a new series of paintings in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and panels entitled “Transitions”.
For the past several years Pinkham has been an artist-in-residence at the Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) at California State University Channel Islands campus in Camarillo. “The realities of being a professional artist is that it is difficult“, says Pinkham. “It’s very competitive. You have to draw from deep inside of you to pull out the work.” Talking about her residency at SCIART, Pinkham relates, “I come here and it’s all about art. I work in acrylic and mixed media. I come to the studio and work for about 6 hours everyday.” A lover of nature and an avid surfer, Pinkham resides at Hollywood Beach with her husband.
Pinkham will be present for a reception at the DCA gallery on Friday, July 18 from 5pm to 7:30pm along with concurrent receptions held at the Carnegie Art Museum, the SCIART West and the Café on A, all located within walking distance in downtown Oxnard. The evening will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet many of the artists at the receptions. This event is free and the public is invited to come by and enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres.
Located next to the Carnegie Art Museum, Downtown Center for the Arts is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster economic development and cross-cultural understanding through the arts.
