A special exhibition of small original ceramic sculptures by Jack N. Mohr
accompanied by imaginary photomontages showing them in large scale in public
spaces, many in local, Santa Barbara settings but also at the Getty or the
Stanford art museum ‹ a vision or a fantasy of what and where they could be.
Jack N. Mohr, born in Berlin, Germany, studied Art and Visual Communication
at the State University for Creative Arts in Berlin and graduated with a
Masters¹ degree in Graphic Design. After working in advertising agencies and
design ateliers he founded his own studio, MOHR: DESIGN. Jack N. Mohr won
awards for posters and earned international recognition with his logo and
trademark designs. His design work is represented in the poster collections
of two museums in Berlin and his art can be found in various private and
corporations'collections.
In addition to his graphic design work Jack N. Mohr always created art, in
the beginning mostly collages and paintings, but also exploring photography
and printmaking. In 1998 he was introduced to working in ceramics and became
so fascinated by this material that for the following three years he just
about exclusively worked with that medium. When not being able to use the
shared ceramics studio anymore he went back into painting, developing and
refining his abstract expressionistic style. Though now concentrating on
painting, three-dimensional approaches and occasional sculptural work became
an important part of his artistic endeavor.
1997 Jack N. Mohr came to California and lives in Santa Barbara since. His
work has been shown in numerous galleries and institutions in Germany as
well as in the United States ‹ in solo exhibits, exhibitions shared with
other artists, and group shows. He was also the organizer and curator for
many art and design exhibitions and also invited as judge for art
competitions.
