Laboratory 99, Shanghai
Laboratory 99 is pleased to present its inaugural exhibition in Shanghai. The show presents the works of several Chinese artists, all whom share the desire to find new forms of expression.
Laboratory 99 is pleased to present its inaugural exhibition in Shanghai, opening September 6th, at 18:00 o’clock, and running through October 10th at 50 Moganshan Lu, Building 7, Floor 1.
Laboratory 99 is a new art gallery in Shanghai, dedicated to promoting young artists and housing special projects that support and promote the artist’s research. We believe that art begins with the artist’s willingness to discover and promote new ideas and new languages. A Laboratory is where scientists conduct research and perform experiments -- where man looks into the future and at the world’s individual and collective development. Likewise, Laboratory 99 invites artists to undergo research, shape new ideas and experiment new artistic processes. It’s a space where, through trial and error, artists may innovate and create.
The scientific process of investigation, experimentation and discovery inspires Laboratory 99’s inaugural show “ RESEARCH…RESEARCH…RESEARCH… ” The show presents the works of several Chinese artists, all whom share the desire to find new forms of expression. In art, research is not only considered as formal study and systematic deepening of a specific art form but also as an interest and willingness to experiment and create new languages. Through the formal study of an artistic language and the conceptual formulation of new ideas, the artist express himself and his soul, influenced by his time and the society in which he lives.
Placing these works in the Laboratory 99, a space built from scientific tools and images, also invites visitors to consider art, like science, as a vehicle to discover new theories and principles. The innovative gallery space with its science motif reveals and promotes the artistic process and brings visitors ever closer to the inner workings of art.
