Afterwards. Photographs of the faces of TriBeCa after September 11th. Months later, to look, search, turn our heads, not to East or West or morning nor night, but to 'Afterwards' gives the walls of our homes a new chorus of memory and meaning. The chord and pitch that resound throughout the neighborhood are echoing in our domestic and private worlds. The songs of renewal and daily life in TriBeCa today are the essence of Renate Aller's new photo project, 'Afterwards'.

Photographs of the faces of TriBeCa after September 11th
"Early morning, the sun shining with clarity and warmth. The day smelled of certain promise as tender light
breeze skirted from river to river across the triangle below Canal Street. As we looked out upon our streets
we did not imagine the devastation lurking just beyond our window sills, scaffolding, roof gardens, alleyways
and sidewalks. The mellow blue sky would soon turn to an inferno...
Months later, to look, search, turn our heads, not to East or West or morning nor night, but to
"AFTERWARDS" gives the walls of our homes a new chorus of memory and meaning. The chord and pitch
that resound throughout the neighborhood are echoing in our domestic and private worlds. The songs of
renewal and daily life in TriBeCa today are the essence of Renate Aller's new photo project,
"AFTERWARDS."
Her project offers a welcome and enchanting renewal of faith in the grandeur and humanity of her eclectic
community, including playwright Edward Albee, artists Arman, Agastus Goertz, Sardi Klein, Susan
Maraneck, Richard Nonas, Dennis Oppenheim and Jonathan Thomas, restaurateur/ artist Yafa Faro and film director Doug Liman in the wake of the WTC
attacks. Her photographic expose turns a war torn neighborhood into a theatre, and the curtain goes up on the stage of each and every interior she introduces
us to. The inhabitants are diverse in background and fields of interests, and all are shown with equal attention and care. Catalyzed by Aller's exuberant
energy and openness, this cast of characters share their private spheres with us. A community is reborn - never the same as before, but daring to step
forward nonetheless."
