Lorna Marsh's recent work builds on her unique mark making, by including the use of impress rubber stamps. This mega mark making opens up new images, where a single tree becomes an eerily unifrom forest. In a world of threatened and increasing fragile eco systmens, Marsh's uniform virgin forests call attention to the ravaged landscape we see about us. Cloning one tree into a forest appears tantilizingly easy, but as in all of Marsh's work, a tough message lingers in the viewers mind.

Technically speaking Marsh uses varying pressure and angles to achieve the illusion of the tree in the landscape. As with all her mark making and seemingly random dripping paint, everything is controlled to enhance the complex surface of her work. Nothing is left to chance.

In another application of impress stamping, Marsh creates a series of vulnerable human figures, enhanced by invasive stamped animal images. The thread of tension running through these lonely vignettes is enhanced by the cloned animal spectators, who appear to observe the events as they unfold. In these works Marsh also uses the stamping technique to add texture to large collages which dominate some of these places.

The overall effect is to deepen the emotional language in this body of work and to add to the suit of mark making skills Marsh has always bought to her paintings. The effect is unusual, emotionally engaging and technically pleasing.
