Total Design. #5 Artists focus
Total Design. 5 Artists focus. In his oeuvre, which originated in work for theatres, Heimo Zobernig, who has been a key player in Austria's art scene since the 1980s, moves along the boundaries between concepts and artifacts, models and architecture, materials and form, roles and film, signs and text. From a calculated, ironic distance, he examines traditional systems and standards, in particular the framework conditions for art; his exploration of modular elements is also evident in the use of materials and objects from industrial production. The results are controversial transgressions of boundaries and short-circuit maneuvers manifested in an emphatically reduced aesthetic lexicon evocative of minimal art and concept art. At the same time, Zobernig develops imaginary, resonant spaces, situated in immediate correspondence with singular objects, groups of works and spatial interventions, which serve as carriers of the discourse he provokes.
