comunicato stampa

The Emerging Art Fair was launched in 2005 based on an initiative from three Berlin gallery owners: Kristian Jarmuschek (Galerie Jarmuschek und Partner), Tobias Kuttner (KUTTNER SIEBERT), Rüdiger Lange (loop – raum für aktuelle kunst) and the artist Ralf Schmitt (MyVisit formerly Förderkoje®). The aim of the organisers is to present ambitious, young art, still in its early stage, on the international art scene. In 2007, 12,000 enthusiastic visitors came to Preview Berlin. This year, the fair will, for the second time, take place in a former hangar at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport where a total area of more than 4,200 m² will be the impressive stage for an exciting exhibition of art. Preview Berlin will run concurrently with Art Forum Berlin.

Preview Berlin – The Emerging Art Fair is the Berlin-based platform for a young generation of national and international galleries and project spaces. Admission is through a committee which draws on recommendations from a broad network of gallery owners, curators and art specialists. The primary focus of the fair is on emerging artists.

Preview Berlin wants to draw attention to new developments in Berlin’s art scene and other hotbeds of artistic production in Europe and the rest of the world by offering various formats:
The curated Video Art Program, a successful format of Preview Berlin for showing young time-based art works, will be presented in a newly designed Video Box.
The Blue Room Series will annually invite young, Berlin-based curators and artists to create an installation for a blue-painted room at the gallery of Hangar2.
The Performance Art Day, as a platform for young performance artists based in Berlin, invites selected performance artists to conceive, exclusively for Preview Berlin, site-specific performances.

The Emerging Art Fair presents a new side programme:

The Blue Room Series invites young Berlin-based curators to develop, together with an up-and-coming artist, a room installation especially for Preview Berlin. This year, curator Lotte Møller has chosen the Danish artist Søren Lose (1972). The conception of Loses sculpture relates to his ongoing research on historic symbols in urban spaces, and addresses the change of meaning of the representational functions of Tempelhof Airport. The installation of the Blue Room Series has been made possible by the generous support of Taekker Immobilienverwaltung GmbH and Künstlerhaus Bethanien. The lighting concept has been made by Erco Leuchten GmbH. On October 30, the Performance Art Day will feature object presentations, durational performances, video performances and story-telling by international Berlin-based artists. Florian Feigl, a Berlin performance artist, curator and member of Berlin’s "Performer Stammtisch", will Performance Art Day. Performance Art Day will end with an open panel discussion on October 30 at 6 pm in the Preview Berlin Lounge.

The Preview Berlin – Video Art Programme will present the latest international video art. As first programme a selection of video works made up of contributions from the galleries participating in Preview Berlin will be shown. As second part, the Video Art Programme will feature works by Berlin artists. Curator Sabine Schütze is responsible for both programmes. Preview Berlin – The Emerging Art Fair focuses on fashion. In collaboration with WOUND, the emerging magazine for fashion, art, music and architecture from London, the French shooting star, Romain Kremer, has designed a T-Shirt exclusively for Preview Berlin staff. The T-shirt will be produced in a limited edition and sold exclusively at Preview Berlin until November 2. On Thursday, October 30 the official Preview Berlin and WOUND “Talent Scout” party will take place at 11pm in the “Roter Salon” at Volksbühne, featuring Feral (Caron Geary), Angie Reed and Cobra Killer. The Preview Berlin Team will be outfitted by the Danish label Mads Nørgaard.

With the generous support of Toyota Deutschland GmbH there will be a free Toyota Prius Hybrid Shuttle between Preview Berlin and Art Forum at 15-minute intervals as well as daily public guided tours at 3 and 5pm. On Sunday, November 2, 2 - 5pm, Preview Berlin will offer a special art programme for children aged between 6 and 13 years. Preview Berlin – The Emerging Art Fair was launched in 2005 based on an initiative by Berlin gallery owners: Kristian Jarmuschek (Galerie Jarmuschek und Partner), Tobias Kuttner (KUTTNER SIEBERT), Rüdiger Lange (loop – raum für aktuelle kunst) and the artist Ralf Schmitt (MyVisit formerly Förderkoje®). The organisers objective is to present ambitious, young art, still in its early stage, to the international art scene.
