Sabine Tress / Gary Komarin

New works on canvas and paper

The young German artist Sabine Tress (*1968) has been living and working in London since 1994. This is her second show at Gallery Proarta in Zurich, Switzerland.
She has been commissioned a number of projects - such as:
- the illustrations for Derek Walcott's Nobel prize winning novel published by Coron Verlag, Switzerland, in 1992;
- the design of Opel Tigra for General Motors, France, in 1994;
- a wallpainting for the Romulus Corporation, London, in 1996.
Between 1993 and 1995, Sabine Tress created four sand paintings for the "Musée des Beaux-Arts" and the "Musée des Arts africains et océaniques" in Paris, as well as for the "Museum für Naturkunde", in Münster, Germany.
Some of her works are to be found in the public collections of Opel and the city of Ulm ("Stadtwerke Ulm"), to name just two.

Gary Komarin was born in New York City in 1951 and lives and works in Flanders, New Jersey. His show at Gallery Proarta in Zurich is his very first show in Switzerland !
Komarin studied with the abstract expressionist painter Philip Guston at Boston University. He has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout the United States and participated in group exhibitons abroad.
Komarin's paintings are in private, corporate and museum collections including: The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Newark Museum, Microsoft, AT&T and many others. He received the prestigious ?Joan Mitchell Prize in Painting" in 1999, the "Edward Albee Foundation Fellowship" and, among others, the "Elizabeth Foundation, New York, Grant".

The upcoming show will comprise 16 new paintings by Sabine Tress in acrylic and oilsticks on canvas; as well as 6 works in acrylic on canvas or wood and 23 works on paper by Gary Komarin.

Wednesday, 27th of February 2002, 6 p.m.
Both artists will attend the opening of the show.
