Olaug Vethal

Galleri Jessheim, Jessheim

One colourful journey. This exhibition captures a glimpse of what inspired the artist to paint. She gave us an impression of what she saw in her expressionist manner. She loves painting Maltese heritage landscapes which included Malta's heritage temples.

comunicato stampa

When Olaug Vethal ( 1946-2007) was born, she lived in in a village by the name of Jessheim, in her native country of Norway. Sixty years later, the tiny village turned into a hub for those who wanted to be close to Norway's main airport- Oslo Gardeheim.

After studying a variety of subjects, Olaug left for Hamburg, Germany where she continued her studies which also included History of Art and Fine art painting. In 1988, after a visit to the island of Malta, she decided that this was to be her home.

She loved painting Maltese heritage landscapes which included Malta's heritage temples, as well as the Maltese villagers in their daily lives- at the beach, at the market or during some of Malta's 'festas'. She never thought that she captured enough- a prolific artist she was- capturing every moment in movement.

In Malta, she taught art at a professional level to prepare students for their entry into top universities. She was also an inspiration to many local artists too. 'One colourful Journey' captures a glimpse of what inspired Olaug to paint. She gave us an impression of what she saw in her expressionist manner.
