Blow up Blow up. Using stills duplicated from a copy of the movie in 35mm, the artist continually expands a few negatives to a point beyond where Thomas, the protagonist, stops.
Angels Barcelona presents Blow up Blow up, a new project by Joan Fontcuberta (Barcelona, 1955) based on the well-known movie from 1966 by Michelangelo Antonioni, in which the director takes the heterodox tale of a murder as a pretext for exploring the conceptual nature of the border between objective reality - that which appears assimilated by photography - and the illusion. Using stills duplicated from a copy of the movie in 35mm, Fontcuberta continually expands a few negatives to a point beyond where Thomas, the protagonist, stops.

‘From nature photography to the nature of photography’: that might sum up the artistic career of Joan Fontcuberta, a prolific, heterodox creative talent engaged since the early nineteen-seventies in a critical practice of photography. More than half a hundred projects that range between artistic experimentation and conceptual reflection make up a trajectory that explores the factors that condition information and the deceptions practiced by language and encourages an attitude of suspiciousness.
