Gagosian Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of Vibeke Tandberg in the UK. Tandberg will present two new works entitled loop and
pool/loop.
loop is a series of large color photographs depicting the artists father doing a summersault.
In reading the images from left to right, the viewers eye is
constantly stopped and started again by stalled and replayed segments of action. Where Muybridge uses the frame to create the illusion of animation,
Tandberg disrupts linear movement through repetition and non-sequential use of the filmic frame.
In relation to loop, the film work pool shows the
uninterrupted action of one pool player who ignores the rules by taking one shot after another.
Tandberg, who lives and works in Oslo, Norway, has become known for using digital manipulations to subtly subvert traditional subjects of the camera. She
works regularly with genres such as portraiture, documentary photography, and Hollywood film to re-create herself as others, often friends or family
members. Tandberg is currently showing Faces, 1998 in eye of the beholder at Dundee Contemporary Arts. She was included last year in endtroducing at
Villa Arson, Nice and museum at the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo and will exhibit in the forthcoming Sydney Biennale.
