Opening Night: Friday 22nd March 6-9pm
Following on from the earlier constructed interior and landscape series Kate Belton
presents a new series of photo works that return to the interior with a more intense process
and focus.
These new works use a medley of images such as lifestyle magazines, DIY programmes,
and Modernist interiors and butt them up against the aesthetics of painting genres such as
Old Master, Abstract Expressionism, Modernism and Surrealism.
The drama of each of these photographs is heightened by the expected aesthetics of a
landscape being transposed to the confines of an interior space. These are then further
heightened by the use of cinematographic lighting.
The result is a simultaneous shift and
dislocation in both content and style.
Reality, fiction and the process of its construction
become irreversibly fixed the moment the image is taken.
