THE INNER CITY
Curators: Albert GarcÃa Espuche and Toni Serra
This exhibition proposes a journey inside the city of Fez, specifically
Fès el Bali, the old town, by means of a series of projections which bring
together the different video and audio recordings made over a long period
of time, and a progressive immersion.
The series of projections used to form this exhibition aims to create,
rather than recreate, a journey in the complex sense of the word: using
audiovisual segments which illustrate different aspects of the city's
anthropological, sociological, planning and religious fabric.
This journey will take visitors from public to private space, allowing
them to grasp the rich, complex relations produced in ways of
understanding space and time, both in "the old town" and beyond.
To visit Fez is also to see, as in a distorting mirror, certain clichés of
the western world. In this way, a deliberate, thorough, patient approach
to the reality of this city at the same time constitutes a new way of
seeing our own world, with useful detachment and through different eyes.
