Max and Gaby's Alphabet

The extraordinary four-color etchings of draftsman and printmaker Tony Fitzpatrick will be the starting point for a project designed to benefit Chicago school children.
Fitzpatrick's latest series of prints is a delightful children's alphabet that will appeal to audiences of all ages with such images as "'A' is for 'Atomic,'" "'C' for 'Caterpillar,'" and "'R' is for 'Robot.'
" Drawn in his characteristic style that is informed by sources such as children's books, field guides, circus posters, tattoo designs, and folk art, this series will receive its first showing at the MCA before embarking on a national tour.
The artist will also work directly with Chicago Public School students in MCA workshops to create their own alphabets. Some of these artworks will be selected to hang alongside Fitzpatrick's.
Proceeds from the sales of exhibition related products and other fundraising efforts will go toward a fund to enable teachers to purchase art supplies.

Tony Fitzpatrick: Max and Gaby's Alphabet will be accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue.

The exhibition is organized by MCA Curator Lynne Warren.
