The solo exhibition of Daniel Pario Perra
The first part of the exhibition introduces the video Deaf &Dumb from which the entire exhibition is named. On the gallery walls an ice hockey game is cast, between BERN and LANGNAU (derby) of the Swiss national hockey championship.
In the middle of the screen, all trought the video, the image stands out of a deaf and dumb adolescent, Jonas Jenzer, translating the game with the language of signs for deaf peolpe.
The disturbing action forces the viewers to decode the carryng out of the game from the gestures of the protagonist that hides the vision of the match itself with his presence.
The work has been produced on place to put the young protagonist (JONAS JENZER) in the center of the communication and, at the same time, to make is handicap, known by few in town (THUN -BERN), recognizable.
The original video shootings have been granted by the Swiss broadcasting station ''TeleBern '' -.
The second part of Daniel Pario Perra exhibition concerns a second video that is entitled Moving in Silence.
Nada Nemkova, a young deaf employee, is filmed while dancing in a stage theatre under dazzling reflectors lights illuminating the center of the scene leaving the background in the dark. Her dancing body seems to flow in looseness and spontaneity, giving life to an extremely soft, yet at times totally irregular, movement, without interruptions, as if she succeded in gaining the music tempo naturally.
Actually for the external observer, this dance seems articulated by an unusual rhythmic tempo, and so unlikely to became even unlistenable.
The exhibition is concluded by some big size c-print, in wich Jonas Jenzer (the main character of the Deaf and Dumb video) is shown at the railway station during the passage of some high speed convoy.
