Cambridge Galleries celebrates the return to Canada of 41º to 66º Architecture in Canada: Region, Culture, Tectonics from the 2008 Venice Biennale (September 14-November 23, 2008) with this display of selected projects from the exhibition and a lecture by the curators on their Venice experiences. 41º to 66º was originally created under the auspices of Cambridge Galleries, who served as the official Canadian Commissioner at the 2008 Venice Biennale.
41º to 66º features contemporary Canadian architecture from coast to coast and north to the Arctic Circle. The exhibition reflects the architecture of six distinct geographic regions in Canada-- the Arctic, West Coast, Mountain, Prairie, Continental and Atlantic—and explores the intersection of sustainable architecture with local culture and geography, rural vernacular building practices and indigenous cultural traditions.
41º to 66º is co-curated by architecture professors John McMinn and Marco Polo and features 36 architectural projects by 27 architectural firms from Halifax in the east to Vancouver in the West and Yellowknife in the far north.
Steve Mykolyn of TAXI Canada collaborated on the exhibition design, graphic communications and promotion for the exhibition at the Venice Biennale. Laurie Plater of Bhandari & Plater, designer of the exhibition catalogue, will collaborate on the exhibition design for the return engagement in Cambridge.
