Greg Meeson

James Noseem Gallery, London

The exhibition comprises new paintings, photographic prints and sculptures, continuing the artist's exploration of the gallery and work as one unified prescience. Each work, whilst retaining a clear identity as an 'art object', reinforces the condition of the gallery, presenting nothing more than a continuation of the gallery aesthetic.

One has to have died already to be there

Private View: Thursday 29th April 2002

James Noseem Gallery is pleased to present an installation of new works by the artist Greg Meeson in an exhibition entitled One has to have died already to be there. It will be Meeson's second one-man show at the James Noseem Gallery.

The new works, made especially for the James Noseem Gallery space, continue the grey of the concrete floor into paintings and photographic prints of the same uniform grey, and mirror the pristine white of the walls in sculptural forms.

The title of the exhibition is a quotation taken from Brian O'Doherty's book Inside the White Cube, which addresses a variety of issues of relevance to this new installation of works. Over recent years, Meeson's work has become an ongoing exploration of the gallery condition and the status of the pure gallery space as the defining icon of western art in modern times.

With his new exhibition he hopes to "present an entirely fused vision of art and the gallery. As twinned elements, they fuel each other and the merging of the two simply purifies this relationship."

Greg Meeson Lives and works in Cheltenham. He has participated in group shows at the James Noseem Gallery and received his first solo exhibition in 2000. Meeson is currently working on a number of new projects to be announced later this year.
