It's always night, or we wouldn't need light. This exhibition brings together two artists who investigate the image in very different ways. Videos by Astrid Nippoldt meet Hansjorg Dobliar's expansive, colourful constructions, as well as painted and painted-over pictures. Both examine familiar aspects of everyday life and cultural history and investigate possible reinterpretations and entirely new interpretations.
This exhibition in the Villa Merkel brings together two artists - Astrid Nippoldt
(1973, lives in Berlin) and Hansjorg Dobliar (1970, lives in Berlin) - who
investigate the image in very different ways. Videos by Astrid Nippoldt meet
Hansjorg Dobliar's expansive, colourful constructions, as well as painted and
painted-over pictures.
Astrid Nippoldt is considered one of Germany's most important video artists. Her
works mark the intersections between real events and fiction. They depict unbalanced
atmospheres and tragicomic circumstances, demonstrating an interest in the absurdity
of existence. Hansjorg Dobliar creates cosmic spaces from crystalline structures.
Light phenomena with embedded real natural forms constitute his atmospheric
landscapes.
Both examine familiar aspects of everyday life and cultural history and investigate
possible reinterpretations and entirely new interpretations. In the romantic
tradition, they examine the limits of the image's rational availability.
