We are pleased to announce our second exhibition of paintings by Roy
Voss. Voss has for some time been known for his subtle abstract paintings,
but in this new body of work his familiar hazy palette has seemingly been
invaded by a parade of bewildered and forlorn figures. The delicate, smooth,
almost mute painted surfaces are disturbed by nervous and fragmented lines
that describe cartoon characters. Casually apprehended and quickly
understood, these figures are both funny and melancholic. Occupying the
groundless, airy spaces, they seem worried about where they are and what
they are becoming - the incredulous meet the sublime.
Roy Voss graduated from Goldsmiths College, London in 1992. He has
recently exhibited at Danielle Arnaud Gallery, London; Galerie Hollenbach,
Stuttgart, Germany; Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall and Djanogly Gallery,
Nottingham
