Sentiment is for the audience. The artist presents two videos. The projections will be framed by an installation which picks, indicates and quotes elements of the Bauhaus Stage.
"Burnt cork" could be translated as "verrußte Korkrinde". Today one would probably just say black make-up.“ A "black man in black face"* takes center stage in the video work SENTIMENT IS FOR AUDIENCES (2008 / 29:00 Min.) *(19th Century Expression, an African American actor in black mask)
In DIE BLUME IM KNOPFLOCH (2009 / 16:00 Min.) a female tap dancer tries to retrace step sequences of dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson on the Bauhaus Stage in Dessau. The "black face", as well as the tap rates become symbols of a translational process, poignantly uncovering the discriminating reinterpretations and appropriation of a society within the cultural context.
The projections will be framed by an installation which picks, indicates and quotes elements of the Bauhaus Stage.
