Double entrance / Double exit is part of a continuing closed narrative structure that underlies Trubkovich's practice: The Escape Condition. The central theme is liberation and a fruitless search for utopia. This is presented metaphorically as the journey of an escaped prisoner and his communications along the way. It presents freedom, captivity, utopia and escapism as a loop. With this story Trubkovich aims to highlight the effects nature, borders, identity, nationalism and art itself have on an individual.
This will be Kon Trubkovich's second solo exhibition with Museum 52,London.
He will exhibit a new series, double entrance / double exit, which comprises of a new film and series of drawings, created at the site of Michael Heizer's double negative 1969-70; a negative space carved out from a mesa in a forgotten corner of the Nevada desert. The series began with his solo show at P.S.1 in 2006.
