Carried out as a project of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency Visual Arts Directorate, "The Photograph Parade: Istanbul 2010" directed and curated by Gültekin Çizgen under the coordination of Cenk Gençdiş is now featuring the second exhibition of the series in October.

The exhibition "Istanbul's Name is Photography" by Nevzat Çakır is opened with a cocktail party on 3 October at 19:00. A special design catalogue of the exhibition will be distributed to visitors at the same day.

Nevzat ÇAKIR himself describes the exhibition as follows:

There are those who do not mind the artistic branch to express themselves but rather focus on expressing. I could never think and I have never thought that way. In other words, what I have ever wanted to tell never came above it. When I look at something, when I have something in mind I always wonder how I can express it via photography. Even the reason I care for my health is that it should not prevent my photography. I do not smoke, I do not drink, I go to bed and get up early, I care for my eating, I park my car half an hour away from my work so that I would not lose my discipline to walk. To put it simply, my "STREET’S NAME IS PHOTOGRAPHY". So it is just natural that Istanbul’s name is photography too.

Do not be surprised this is followed by Anatolia’s name is photography, Mugla’s name is photography, ancient cities’ name is photography, autumn’s name is photography, names for solitude, pain, joy, travel, nature etc. are all photography.

What other art is still young at 150, giving birth to cinema as a giant art, yet to go on its own way?

The art of painting started forty thousand ears ago on cave walls and we all know what it is capable of when it has turned out to be photography with realism in hand. Photography is modern, every new technology finds a way to live in it.

Nowadays high-income level countries are struggling for expanding arts to the society as the arts is the best way to spend spare times that come out of welfare. Many art disciplines do not fit to that but photography does. This is why it is hip. Do not be tricked by commercials of the photography industry that tell you "would you like to create arts within a millisecond?" though. Basic rules of art of course apply to photography as well.

Every innovation, every technique and every action will find its place in photography. To summarize, photography is modern and open to every idea. The only thing it dislikes is unprogressiveness and bigotry. This is why I say that my name is photography.
