Solo show
Situated between music and architecture, Sonic Chapel presents notation, design and the performance of sound space. In the middle of the 20th Century, music composers began to specify special layouts in their musical notations. They set a precedent of conservation, communication, and conception of special meaning in sound that continues today. This strategy of musical notation, as used by Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage, demonstrates an aural thinking of space. It is widely accepted that when listening is the primary vehicle of perception, the surrounding spatial construct become fluid and temporal. Through three visual and aural themes, the Sonic Chapel exhibition aims to encourage visitors to imagine architecture through the act of listening. Opening Reception at 6:30 pm.
