The exhibition sets out to situate and disseminate the
way in which Gaudà came into
contact with his contemporaries on what was, literally,
a return trip - that is, the influences
that affected Gaudà and how Gaudà himself influenced
others.
The exhibition is divided into three sections which are
not designed in strict chronological
succession; in GaudÃ's work everything is permanent and
reiterative, from the most
general terms to the most particular of elements,
whereas stylistic classifications or
biographical periods are limited and have already been
amply explored as a way of
explaining his oeuvre.
The first section centres on the cultural and artistic
moment, both during GaudÃ's
formative years and the period when he produced his
first major works. The second
section is the nucleus of the exhibition, as it is
devoted to the work of the architect and,
above all, to his Project in the most profound sense:
the synthesis of art and
architecture, of which his contemporaries spoke when
commenting on his constructions
and, in short, GaudÃ's own interpretation of the idea
of the total work of art. The third
section looks at GaudÃ's fate: the international
attention accorded to the man and his
work in journals and exhibitions.
This exhibition presents original materials by GaudÃ
himself, alongside a broad selection
of materials and documents by other artists of the
time, with a view to illustrating the
keys of his relationship with the historical and
cultural context of the time. All in all, the
exhibition will comprise in the region of 400 original
pieces, including drawings, paintings,
photographs, sculptures and books, etc.
