The exhibition includes the artworks of Audrey Bakx, Burak Bedenlier, Muge Akcakoca, Petrit Halilaj and Sukran Mertcan. The artists interpret the feeling of compassion, an essential human characteristic, through their artworks. They refer to the fact that it is a melancholic feeling to love others and to have pity on others and this feeling is nurtured from compassion.

Murteza Fidan, one of the curators of “Melancholy of Compassion”, explains the conceptual framework of the exhibition based on the surgical experiments of Dr. Henri de Mondeville who lived in the 14th century in Paris: “Dr. Mondeville asserts that it is a compassionate reaction that the other parts of the body come to the aid of injured organs by delivering heat and blood to eliminate their pain. He believes that the distant bodies deserted by their souls will reach to peace if this mechanism of compassion within a suffering body can be developed among bodies. Mondeville states that this condition will impose moral obligations on people and he believes that the fear from the pain witnessed in other bodies will improve the feeling of compassion among people.

Mondeville claims that loving others is only possible by regarding the pains of others as one’s own pain. He also states that feeling sorry for others is a melancholic feeling and the introverted pain felt when loving others emphasizes an honorable melancholy based on thought. ‘Melancholy of Compassion’ exhibition will enable us to see in the works of the artists the re-interpretation of the feeling of compassion that is assessed by Mondeville in that way.”

Siemens Sanat is a contemporary art centre which was founded in January 16/ 2004 within the framework of Siemens's corporate social responsibility. From its opening up until 2007, Siemens Sanat, which aims to bring together young faces in contemporary art with artlovers, was a venue where contemporary art works of young artists were exhibited. During this period, under the curatorship and consultancy of Marcus Graf once every two months group exhibitions on a variety of subjects took place with experimental and young artists' works especially in the forefront.
